Tulum Day 2

Friday, March 18, 2022

I woke up this morning to no running water. Got locked *in* my Airbnb. Sliced my big toe on a rock in the courtyard. Dropped off my laundry. All before 8am. It’s already been a day.

Thankfully I cut my toe in my own courtyard, so I hobbled up the steps to my room, doctored it up, and then hobbled off to the laundry in my flip flops. My tennis shoes put too much pressure on the wound. As for the laundry, the man informed me it would be 56 pesos ($2.75) for it to be washed, dried, and folded. I seriously need this service at home.

After putting in 4 hours of work, I found some lunch on the main drag. Really, I was too hungry to walk any further, so I settled into a clearly touristy place with a shaded courtyard. Eggs, avocado, tomatoes, spinach, and toast. Delicious. Definitely overpaid for the meal but I had been craving fresher, greener foods so it didn’t bother me. After that, I decided to walk further and try out a cacao drink with ginger and turmeric to try and get some healthy spices into my diet. On my way, I stopped for gauze and tape to wrap my toe. I really didn’t want it to get infected, and a little more protection from the dusty, gravel street gutter wouldn’t hurt either. I wrapped it up while waiting on my cacao drink.

My afternoon gameplan shifted from lounging in the pool. Unable to get my foot wet and not wanting to walk anymore, I caught up on my blog posts with my good foot dipped in the pool. I probably sat there for about 2 hours enjoying the calm surroundings of the well-manicured Airbnb courtyard. Toe probs can’t stop me!

Eventually, I stepped out to one of the closer restaurants, Burrito Love, and picked up a prime rib burrito. After the tip, I think it cost about $12 USD. Prices in Tulum are steep compared to the rest of Mexico. Later I finished up one last blog post, gave my toe a little love, and called it a night.
